Wrapping our Arms around our Global Community

We were pleased to be able to provide pro-bono treatment for Rachel, a young Mum from Vanuatu this week. Rachel was visited in Vanuatu in response to a request for help for her son. Rachel’s son was born with club foot, a condition impacting his ability to walk to school, play with friends and giving him pain. Rotary organised a doctor to visit families in need in Vanuatu as part of their assistance to the Pacific Islands.

In conjunction with Ronald McDonald House Australia, they were able to bring Rachel and her son to Australia for treatment of the club foot condition. Rachel left 2 young children at home to spend 4 months in Australia while her son underwent surgery, physiotherapy, and other rehabilitation to improve his quality of life and to rectify his club foot.

During the family’s Australian visit, Rachel developed pain in her front tooth and needed root canal treatment. Through the support of the Australian Dental Foundation, Dr Miller was able to address Rachel’s pain and get her comfortable again, providing root canal treatments for Rachel, with no cost to her.

With the pain gone, Rachel is glad to have been able to get her root canal treatment attended to, and to have the treatment in Australia. She was so thankful to Dr Miller and the Australian Dental Foundation for what they have done to help her. She feels grateful to have been embraced by the community, especially when her trip to Australia was focused on her child receiving the care he needed.
